In its 10th Annual Jazz Festival, the APEX Arts League will present to Northeast Tarrant County The UNT One O’Clock Lab Band in concert on Saturday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m., at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 185 South White’s Chapel Boulevard, Southlake. Three highly talented high school jazz bands will open the program, performing commissioned pieces written by composition students at UNT. The High School bands include:
- Birdville High School Jazz Ensemble from North Richland Hills, Texas
- Carroll Jazz Orchestra from Southlake, Texas
- Liberty High School Jazz Ensemble from Frisco, Texas
The One O’Clock, under the direction of Alan Baylock, is the premier performing jazz ensemble from the internationally acclaimed University of North Texas’ Jazz Studies Program. The One O’Clock is a seven time Grammy- nominated ensemble and is noted for its exceptional individual musicianship and tight ensemble performance. The One O’Clock frequently appears in major jazz venues such as Birdland (NYC), Blues Alley (DC) and Catalina’s (LA) and has produced more than 60 albums in its tenure.
